In the spring of 1994, Covenant Place opened its doors as the only continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in the area. Covenant Place is a result of the vision of local community leaders making a commitment to the people of Sumter and surrounding areas. A commitment to provide a lifestyle to seniors that wanted to forego the burdens of maintaining a house and live among others who share their zest for life.
These local leaders sought support from local area congregations – Congregation Sinai, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Grace Baptist Church, Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, Saint Anne Catholic Church, Salem Black River Presbyterian Church, and Trinity United Methodist Church – to help a dream become reality.
2019 Board of Trustees
Representatives from the local area congregations remain members of the Board of Trustees at Covenant Place. These dedicated members of the Sumter community recognize that aging is a normal process in which people experience in different ways. They ensure all of our programs, services, and amenities are designed with the needs of mature adults and their loved ones in mind.
